Chelsea have announced a record turnover and £15.3m profit from the year ending June 30 2017 from player sales counterbalancing their operating loss from last season.

Chelsea were not in the Champions League competition last season after failing to qualify under Mourinho’s last season in charge. This resulted in an operating loss for the club from lost revenue last season, but their player sales this year have offset that loss.

The Blues generated a profit of £69.2m, which came largely from the sale of Oscar to Shanghai SIPG for £60m.

Chelsea are delighted that they have complied with UEFA’s controversial Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

The blues recorded a turnover of £361.3m which was an improvement on the £329.1m they earned from the previous year. Winning the Premier League title last season has been attributed to the 9.3% increase of revenue.

Chairman Bruce Buck said: “Our business has continued to grow long-term and to be able to post record turnover figures despite not playing Champions League football during that period highlights this strength.

“Our fans played a major part, by supporting the team towards lifting the Premier League trophy, coming to our matches in large numbers, and our ever-increasing global fanbase has helped important commercial partnerships to be formed. We thank our supporters, partners and staff for a successful 2016-17.”

Chelsea expect revenue to grow even more after striking a deal with new partners Nike and also from playing in the Champions League this season.
