Chelsea could offer trio in bid for Everton’s John Stones

Chelsea could return for Everton defender John Stones in the January transfer window, and may be willing to include three players in the deal to help push it through.

Jose Mourinho saw three bids for the 21-year-old defender rejected over the summer, the last bid reaching ÂŁ37 million. However, Everton stood firm and Stones has continued his good form into this season for both club and country.

This has prompted the Blues to take another look at trying again for Stones, who would be seen as the natural long-term replacement for current captain John Terry.

And in an attempt to make the deal more appetising, Mourinho could offer Papy Djilobodji, Andreas Christiensen and forward Bertrand Traore in the deal, plus cash.

All three are uncertain of their future at Stamford Bridge after so far failing to hold down a position in the first-team squad as Chelsea look to make some room ready for some winter buys.

They currently sit 14th in the Premier League and 10 points adrift of the top 4 following Sunday’s draw at Tottenham, and Mourinho will attempt to close the gap by adding in January should the right players become available, and he’ll be hoping Stones is one of those.
