Blues will go for Dutch striker if they miss out on Alexandre Pato

Chelsea have identified Robin Van Persie as a potential signing if the deal for Alexandre Pato collapses.

The Blues are expected to bring in a new striker at some point in this window, and although it looks likely that a deal for Pato is all-but finalised, officials at Stamford Bridge are putting together a plan B just in case.

According to reports, Pato had a medical at Chelsea yesterday and could be signed formally today, but if nothing does come of that, they could turn to a former-Premier League striker for the remainder of the season.

Van Persie Is Backup Plan

It’s reported that Chelsea could make a move for ex-Arsenal and Manchester United star Robin Van Persie.

The 32-year-old is currently playing for Turkish side Fenerbahce, but he is struggle to settle into life in the Super Lig and could be willing to make a dramatic exit already.

If the Pato deal doesn’t get finalised, it’s believed Chelsea will turn their attentions to Van Persie and will try to lure him back to England.

As it stands, Guus Hiddink has three strikers at his disposal, but with Loic Remy wanting out and Radamel Falcao injured, it’s left him with really just Diego Costa for the past few weeks.
