Blues won’t be signing Kostas Manolas

Chelsea have failed in a late bid to sign Roma defender Kostas Manolas.

After a slow start to the season, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is wanting to add defensive reinforcements to his title-winning squad before the window shuts at 6pm this evening.

The Blues have seen three bids for John Stones rejected by Everton, Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour join Valencia while Raphael Varane and Ezequiel Garay look likely to stay at Real Madrid and Zenit St Petersburg respectively.

Now Italian media are claiming Mourinho was a fan of Manolas but Roma are not wanting to sell.

However Chelsea are set to sign Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji. He is reportedly in London for a medical to complete a deal thought to be worth around ÂŁ2.75million.
