Chelsea’s keen interest everywhere to sign a new centre-back this summer is widely known.

The Blues, who offloaded John Terry at the end of last season, have been linked with two of world football’s hottest defensive properties.

According to reports Chelsea are unwilling to meet Southampton’s £60m asking price for target Virgil van Dijk, and £50m Juventus are demanding for Leonardo Bonucci is also seen as a little too much for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are now seeking an alternative that will cost just over half of what Bonucci is worth and the target man is Roma defender Kostas Manolas.

The 26-year-old Greece international had been set to join Zenit St Petersburg, however, the same source are now saying that Chelsea have been disputing the wage demand.

However, other reports say an offer is likely to be put forth should the player’s proposed move to Russia fall through.
