Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal with reports stating that Bayern have signed Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte is a massive fan of Bayern midfielder Arturo Vidal after the two worked together at Juventus.

Reports state that Bayern are on the verge of signing Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka which has thrown Vidal’s future in doubt at the Allianz Arena.

Goretzka has been linked with a number of clubs including Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid but he has chosen to sign for Bayern and will join in the summer on a free transfer as his contract expires at Schalke.

So now, Arturo Vidal’s future at the club is in doubt as Bayern have a number of options in midfield including Corentin Tolisso who they signed last summer.

Antonio Conte has talked of his admiration for Arturo Vidal though and is reportedly keen to sign him. Recently he stated: “Arturo is a fantastic player. I have a great respect for Arturo, and we spent many years in Juventus together. If we go to war, I’d always want him with me.”

The 30-year-old combative midfielder would add some steel and creativity to the Blues midfield. Additionally, Conte has managed him in the past at Juventus when Conte won three successive Serie A titles with Vidal in his team.  But shortly afterwards, Vidal signed for Bayern in 2015 for €37million.

However, Conte would have to convince the board to sign a 30-year-old with a likely high price tag given the boards stance on not signing players for more than one year contracts who are over the age of 30.
