Chelsea to make Mandanda move

The Blues have begun talks over a potential move for the goalkeeper

Chelsea look set to swoop in for goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, according to reports.

The Blues are rather eager to bring in a new goalkeeper who can become an understudy to Thibaut Courtois or potentially even a replacement if the Belgium international has his head turned.

Current number two, Asmir Begovic, is growing increasingly unhappy at Stamford Bridge due to a lack of playing time and could decide to move on this summer to try and get some more first-team football.

If that was to happen, it would leave Chelsea in need of a new backup goalkeeper and they view Mandanda as an ideal replacement. The 31-year old is more than capable of doing a job for the first-team, as he has for Marseille in France over the last few years.

Everton also express interest

However, unless Courtois was to leave, it’s likely that he would find first-team action hard to come by at Stamford Bridge and although he does reportedly want a move to England, he may prefer a move to Everton, who have also registered an interest and could offer him consistent gametime.

Both clubs could sign him for absolutely nothing too – his contract in Ligue 1 comes to an end later this month and with the 31-year old seemingly keen to try his hand at Premier League football, it’s unlikely he will sign a new deal.

Either way, it looks like we could be seeing the keeper in England next season.
