Chelsea are offering more than the £200,000 a week to secure goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on a long term deal which would make him the best paid goalkeeper in the world.

The new contract is double that of his current £100,000 a week and he will be better paid than Manchester united’s David De Gea.

The Telegraph report Chelsea are optimistic Courtois will sign the new contract despite interest in the Belgian shot-stopper from Real Madrid.

The Belgian has just 18 months remaining on his current contract but Chelsea are hoping the new bumped up deal will convince Courtois to stay and snub Madrid.

The new deal would run until 2023, keeping the Belgian at Stamford Bridge for the next five-six years.

Chelsea will reportedly let the 25-year-old’s contract run down to the end if Courtois doesn’t sign the new contract as they would rather keep him for as long as possible. And if he doesn’t sign, Chelsea are looking at Stoke City’s Jack Butland as an alternative.

Courtois has repeatedly said that he’d like to return to Spain one day, after spending three seasons at Atletico Madrid on loan. His children live there and he has said he prefers the lifestyle in Spain.

But, Real Madrid look set on signing Kepa Arrizabalaga instead from Athletic Bilbao in January.

Courtois said recently: I love my children to death. When you miss them, you are sometimes wondering – shouldn’t I play in Spain in the next few years? That’s why I want to take time to decide how many years I want to sign up. When I sign, I want to tell Chelsea that I have been here for so many years because I am happy here.

Chelsea will hope to get the deal done in the upcoming weeks before turning their attention on Eden Hazard’s contract renewal.
