Michael Emenalo reveals why they chose to axe manager
Chelsea Football Club have revealed why they decided to sack Jose Mourinho this afternoon.
The club’s technical director Michael Emenalo has revealed the reasons behind the sacking of Mourinho, and he has admitted that it wasn’t because of the players.
The Blues are currently 16th in the Premier League following nine defeats from 16 games, and it was announced this afternoon that the manager had lost his job.
Speaking to Chelsea TV this evening, Emenalo revealed why the board decided to part ways with Mourinho for the second time.
Statement from Emenalo
“While there is huge sentiment for the individual who has done so much for the club, the fact of the matter is that Chelsea Football Club is in trouble,” said Emenalo.
“The results are not good. There obviously seems to be a palpable discord between the manager and the players and we felt it was time to act.
“The owner is forced to make what is a very trough decision for the good of the club.
“Chelsea is one point above relegation and that’s not good enough.
“Anybody who has any kind of affiliation to the club can understand that the club is in trouble and something had to be done.”
“I think that the same people need to remember that this is essentially the same group of players who won the league last season,” Emenalo added.
“They did it in style, and by showing commitment, by sweating tears and blood when needed.
“They played to instruction, they did everything that the manager asked them to do.
“We know now that the players have a responsibility to go out and prove everybody wrong and show a certain level of commitment to the decision that has been made tonight.”
