Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan told press ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League match that he never thought about joining the London club, despite strong interest in previous transfer windows.
The Belgian midfielder was asked whether or not he had been tempted by joining international teammate Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge, but he insisted that he was happy in the Italian capital.
“Well I made my choice,” he said. “I never hesitated or thought for a minute about leaving, so it doesn’t matter if it’s Chelsea or anyone else.”
“It’s always nice to play against a top team, and like all professionals I know how to prepare for them. I’m ready to give my best and hope to play well.”
The 29 year-old will be hoping to defeat the Blues on Tuesday night at the Stadio Olimpico, as both teams look for three valuable points that would see them take top spot in Group C.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte admitted before the reverse fixture two weeks ago that he had tried to sign Nainggolan in the past, but a move never materialised.
“In the past, we tried to buy him but he’s a Roma player and I have great respect for him, great respect for the cllub and great respect for my players. It’s not right to speak about him.” he said.
