Former-Chelsea boss believes Southampton manager would be a great appointment

Chelsea legend Glen Hoddle believes the club should appoint Southampton boss Ronald Koeman as their next manager.

The Blues are still looking for a new permanent manager following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho, and with Guus Hiddink set to leave Stamford Bridge in the next few months, an announcement will be expected at the end of the season.

Several names have been linked with the Chelsea job, but one of their former-managers has had his say on the next appointment, and he believes Koeman would be a wise choice.

Hoddle has been discussing the position, and he believes Koeman can offer the club the attractive style of play they desire.

Hoddle Backs Koeman Appointment

“Somebody’s got to go in there, they’ve got the talent there, let them play and get them organised a little bit more,” he said on BT Sport.

“I feel they’re playing a little bit off the cuff. Guus [Hiddink] is there for the short-term so he isn’t worried too much about the long-term.

“For me looking forward I would definitely look at Koeman. I think Ronald Koeman has done a fabulous job.

“I think he would get them playing in the right manner, organised, they play with a bit of freedom but within a style and they know what they’re doing.

“They’re very organised, Southampton. What he’s done with those players is absolutely fantastic, particularly last year, but with better players and backing, my word, I think he could take Chelsea on.”

Hoddle then continued by saying the Chelsea role isn’t an impossible job, despite Roman Abramovich‘s track record of firing his managers.

“I wouldn’t say it’s an impossible job, no, now with the owner and the size of the club and the new stadium coming. No, it’s an exciting time,” he added.

“They’ve had a wobble this season of course but no I would say anyone out there worth his salt would want to have the chance of taking over at Chelsea, particularly with that squad.

“With Abramovich the purse strings are there. He wants to run it a little bit more like a business, a sensible business now, we know that.

“There still going to back the manager with some money there’s no doubt about that.”
