The Blues are set to sign ÂŁ16 million rated Asmir Begovic from Stoke City.

The London club are believed to have beaten fellow Premier League rivals Manchester United to the Bosnian shot stopper.

Begovic is almost certain to leave the Britannia this summer after the highly rated keeper fell out of favour with manager Mark Hughes, giving Jack Butland a starting place instead.

Both United and Chelsea are looking to add a goalkeeper to their ranks.

With the future of David De Gea still uncertain, Louis Van Gaal could look to Begovic as an insurance option, should De Gea leave Old Trafford.

Chelsea on the other hand, will most likely use the 28-year-old as a replacement for Petr Cech, meaning he will most likely only be back up to Thibaut Courtois.

Although the Red Devils were rumoured to be preparing a large bid for Begovic, it is understood that Jose Mourinho would like the deal tied up as soon as possible, in a bid to scare off any competition.

The Telegraph believe the deal could be completed by the end of this week.

They report that sources at Stoke say “there is a deal to be done”, with the only hold up being deciding which player Chelsea loan to Stoke as part of the deal.
