Atletico have ‘significantly upped’ his release clause, say reports

Atletico Madrid will demand upwards of £50 million for their playmaker Antoine Griezmann, after reportedly upping his buyout clause.

Chelsea have long been linked with the France international, but would potentially have to break their record transfer fee of £50 million to sign him.

The Blues were understood to be preparing a £28 million bid for Griezmann earlier this summer, but Spanish publication AS claim the player’s initial release clause of £46.1 million has now been “significantly” upped.

Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in the player, who has reiterated that he has no intention of leaving the Spanish capital.

Griezmann’s current Atletico contract runs until 2020

The 24 year old had an outstanding 2014/15 season, especially in front of goal, netting 22 times in 37 La Liga matches.

He can play as an attacking midfielder, or as a false number nine, and could provide vital striking cover for Diego Costa, along with contributing alongside Eden Hazard and co behind the Brazilian.

Costa, Loic Remy and new loan signing Radamel Falcao are currently the only out and out strikers at manager Jose Mourinho‘s disposal.
