Reds end pre-season with 2-1 victory over Swindon Town

Liverpool ended their pre-season with a victory thanks to a stunning goal from new-signing Christian Benteke.

The Belgium striker gave Brendan Rodgers‘ side the lead after half-time against League One outfit Swindon Town, before youngster Sheyi Ojo won the game three minutes from time.

The Premier League side named a fairly strong outfit for the game against Swindon, with; Alberto Moreno, Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho, Lucas Leiva, Lazar Markovic, Emre Can, Joe Allen, Benteke and Roberto Firmino all starting.

Despite the strong side named by Rodgers, it took until the second-half for The Reds to take the lead, but the goal was worth the wait.

Match Summary

After controlling the ball with his chest, Benteke unleashed a right-footed volley into the corner from outside the box much to the delight of the visiting fans.

Although the Football League side got back on level-terms when Jonathan Obika netted, it was Ojo that had the last say on the game with just three minutes remaining.

After being put through one-on-one, the youngster unleashed a rocket from just outside the box, which the keeper could only parry into the net.

Rodgers’ men end their impressive pre-season with another win ahead of next weekend’s Premier League opener against Stoke City.
