Striker to undergo medical today

Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom is set to undergo a medical at Hull City today ahead of a season-long loan.

The youngster, who impressed during The Gunners‘ pre-season tour in Asia, was aiming to be part of the first-team set-up at the Emirates Stadium this season.

However, Arsene Wenger believes he would benefit from a season out on loan at the Championship club following their recent relegation from the Premier League.

Hull have already snapped up Isaac Hayden on a season-long loan from Arsenal, and it looks like Akpom is set to join him at the KC Stadium.

The 19-year-old spent half of last season in the Championship after being loaned out to Nottingham Forest, and he is set to head back to the Football League for the 2015/2016 campaign.

Akpom Wanted Breakthrough Season

Speaking during pre-season, Akpom revealed his hope of breaking into Arsenal’s first-team ahead of the new season.

He said: “It’s nice to see the young players doing well and the boss says he will always give opportunities to young players who are doing their job.

“But the hard work doesn’t stop there it means you have to maintain a place, hopefully this season I can give it my all and be involved in the team.”

However, with Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck all ahead of him in the pecking order, a season-long loan may be best for his development.
