Five of Europe’s biggest clubs are watching 18-year-old Youri Tielemans

Manchester City are prepared to beat local rivals Manchester United to the signing of 18-year-old Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The Anderlecht youngster is set to leave in January, with a number of Europe’s biggest sides, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, City and United, all after the Belgium Under-21 international.

United boss Louis Van Gaal has been critical of his side’s lack of goals this season, despite being in the top four, and is ready to make a bid for the player they have been scouting for the last 12 months.

However, City have been made aware of the Red Devils’ activity and are ready to move ahead of United and sign the ÂŁ30 million-rated midfielder.

United: Sell before we buy

United are expected to be wanting to offload a player in January, before making an approach to Anderlecht. However, Van Gaal has already admitted his discontent at lacking the goals they need to challenge table-toppers City, for the title.

“I am not happy because if you want to be the champions, you have to win these kinds of matches,” Van Gaal said.

“Arsenal beat Swansea, for example. We lost against Swansea, even though we were the better team, but they have beaten them 3-0.”

City would prove an attractive option for the 18-year-old, who would link up with Belgium duo Vincent Kompany and Kevin De Bruyne.

Meanwhile, both Manchester clubs may come under competition from European giants Bayern and Barca.
