Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has finalised a loan move to Aston Villa- 16 hours after the transfer window deadline.

Villa were close to signing the 25-year-old after The Red Devils accepted a ÂŁ7.5million offer for the player on deadline day, before Cleverley headed to the Midlands to undergo a medical.

However, despite the midfielder seemingly set on a move to Villa, Everton attempted to hijack the deal on Monday evening only to be knocked back when United rejected The Toffees’ ÂŁ5.5m bid.

Villa were allowed a two hour to revive their offer for Cleverley, giving them until 1am to complete the paperwork needed.

But, after the club submitted the loan application at 1.15am, Villa were left waiting to hear from the Premier League about if they managed to secure Cleverely’s signature in time.

The club have, however, now been told that the deal is valid – meaning Cleverley will play for Villa this season.

Cleverley had recently been left to train with United’s reserves after the Old Trafford outfit decided to allow the 25-year-old to negotiate a move away from the club this summer.
