Ronald Koeman confirms deal will be signed next week

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that he expects Nathaniel Clyne to sign a contract extension next week, snubbing interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

The right-back is a target of the Premier League giants, and after Saints’ Champions League push faded away in recent months, it was expected that the England international would leave the club over the Summer.

Saints Keeping Stars

However, in his weekly press conference, Koeman confirmed that a new deal should be signed next week, keeping the 24-year-old at the club past this season.

Koeman has reiterated a number of times that the club won’t be selling their stars like last Summer, and Clyne is one of them he’s desperate to keep.

Before the Dutch manager arrived at St Marys, the club had sold Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers and Rickie Lambert, leading speculation that they’d be relegated from the Premier League.

However, after smart dealings in the transfer window, Koeman has done wonders with Southampton and are now pushing for a Europa League spot.

Koeman Expects Clyne Stay

Despite just falling short of a top-four finish, Koeman expects Clyne to snub a move to United and Chelsea, and it has been revealed that the right-back has recently changed agents.

Koeman said: “It has taken a little bit longer than we expected but Clyne has changed his agent and the feeling is good that we can keep him.

“It is still left to the signature of the player and we hope that will be next week.

“The feeling is very positive and the reason we have to wait a bit more time is because he changed agents.”

Clyne’s current deal expires next Summer, but Southampton don’t want to lose him on a free this time next year so are keen to get him signed on a long-term deal.

Both United and Chelsea were linked with making ÂŁ18million moves.
