Combined starting 11 of Sunderland and Newcastle as they face each in the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday. Ahead of the game, Sillyseason have picked their combined starting XI of the two teams.

GK: Tim Krul (Newcastle)

Despite the Newcastle shot stopper been ruled out for the rest of the season Krul has been one of the best keepers in the League this term therefore takes the Goalkeeping spot.

RB: Daryl Janmaat (Newcastle)

The Dutch wing-back has been in superb form this season scoring two and creating multiple chances for his team mates, He is arguably the best player in this side and could no doubt be a top 4 player.

CB: John O’shea (Sunderland)

The former Manchester United man is past his prime, however his pure leadership get’s him in the side ahead of Younès Kaboul and Fabricio Colocini.

CB: Chancel Mmbemba (Newcastle)

Mmbemba has been solid for Newcastle this season in the heart of defence, his pace means strikers rarely get in behind the former Anderlecht man.

LB: Patrick van Aanholt (Sunderland)

The second Dutch wing-back to get in this side is van Aanholt, the former Newcastle man can get forward and can cause problems for opponents. Despite his poor defensive ability he is miles ahead of Newcastle’s Massadio Haidara.

RM: Jermain Lens (Sunderland)

The skillfull forward has been in good form this season, he has found the net twice this term. Aged 27 Lens arrived at the Stadium Of Light in the summer.

CM: Lee Cattermole (Sunderland)

The no nonsense midfielder has been a fan favourite throughout his time at Sunderland, similar to Jack Colback Cattermole will aim to protect his back four from Newcastle’s attack on Sunday.

CM: Georginio Wijnaldum (Newcastle)

After banging four in at the weekend Gini will be keen to improve on his 6 goal’s this year on sunday. The Dutchman is the most creative player in the side according to ‘Opta’.

LM: Ayoze Perez (Newcastle)

Although his main position is a striker the 21 year old has enough pace and skill to play on the left. Better than Sunderland’s Adam Johnson in my opinion Perez has scored two this season.

ST: Aleksander Mitrovic (Newcastle)

The big Serb has been a handful for defender’s this season. After seeing red against Arsenal Mitrovic has improved his discipline and scored two in two. His passion have made him a fan favourite amongst the Newcastle fan’s.

ST: Jermain Defoe (Sunderland)

Despite playing little this term Defoe remains one of the best finishes in the league. The 33 year old single handedly won the derby last time out with a superb volley.
