Palace prepared to give Liverpool their money back

Crystal Palace have made an improved offer for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, which is believed to be within the £31.5million region.

Liverpool bought the striker just last summer from Aston Villa for £32.5million under ex-boss Brendan Rodgers.

Despite scoring a few goals early on in the season, the replacement of Rodgers with Jurgen Klopp proved to be bad news for him, as he fell heavily out of favour at Anfield for the majority of the season.

Despite this, he still scored a few vital goals for the team in certain games, including a late winner at Selhurst Park against Palace in March from the penalty spot, and a similarly late equaliser against Chelsea at Anfield late in the season.

Should he move to Palace, Benteke would join Andros Townsend, a £13m arrival from Newcastle United, and the France No2 goalkeeper, Steve Mandanda, who has been signed from Marseille for £1.4m, and should soon be followed by West Ham’s James Tomkins. The former England Under-21 international is expected to complete a £12m move across the capital, having been omitted from his club’s pre-season tour of the US and was due to have a medical on Monday.
