The Eagles secure the loan deal for highly-rated Chelsea striker

Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford has joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan deal.

The 21-year-old Grantham-born starlet underwent a medical at Selhurst Park on Monday prior to his move to Alan Pardew’s side, with Bamford now gaining the chance to prove himself in the Premier League.

Bamford, enjoyed a fruitful loan spell in the Championship with Middlesbrough last term, where he netted 19 league goals, and picked up the divisional Player of the Year Award, so will be hoping that the jump to top-flight football can persuade Chelsea to offer him a long-term deal, with his current contract expiring next summer.

The loan signing of Bamford continues a summer of shrewd business for Palace, who have already signed Yohan Cabaye for Paris Saint-Germain for a £13m transfer fee.

Palace win the battle for Bamford’s services:

Several Premier League sides had previously expressed an interest in Bamford, including former club Middlesbrough, with Aitor Karanka left frustrated that he was unable to bring the England Under21 international back to Teesside for another league season, where he flourished – helping Boro to the Championship Play-Off Final.

However – Jose Mourinho has decided against another move into the second-tier, and is keen for him to play regular football at Palace, in order to test his talents in the top pyramid of the English game.
