D.C. United signs Nana Attakora

D.C. United today announced that the club has signed Canadian international Nana Attakora. Attakora was selected in the 2nd round of the 2013 MLS Re-Entry Draft by the Black-and-Red.

“Nana comes with international experience and has a good understanding of what our league is about,” said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. “He will provide a good physical presence at a very key position.”

The Canadian international began his professional career in 2007 with Toronto FC where he appeared in five Reserve League during his first season. In 2008, Attakora saw his action in five first team matches before breaking onto the scene in 2009 with 20 games played (19 starts) while recorded two goals and four assists.

In his last two years in Toronto the defender appeared in 31 games (28 starts) and scored one goal before moving to the San Jose Earthquakes. In his two season with the Earthquakes he appeared in 14 games (12 starts) with one assist.

Attakora has represented Canada at U-16, U-17, U-19, U-20, U-23 and at the senior national team level. Named the Canadian U-20 Player of the year in 2008 and 2009, the defender got his first senior national team cap in 2010 in a friendly match against Jamaica on Jan. 31. Since then, he has gone on to represent his country a total of five times.
