Striker expects to be back playing early January

Arsenal star Danny Welbeck has revealed that he expects to be back playing in the New Year.

The striker underwent surgery on a knee injury earlier this season, with the club confirming he’ll be out for a number of months.

After picking up an injury at the end of last season, Welbeck‘s return date kept getting pushed further back by Arsene Wenger, and after the first few games of the new season, he then confirmed that the striker had to have surgery.

Welbeck’s injury left the club with just Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott as recognised strikers, but the England international has confirmed he should be back around January.

The 24-year-old has admitted it feels great to be out of a leg brace and he’s looking forward to a return.

Welbeck Reveals Injury Update

He said: “It’s difficult to put an exact date on [a return] – around the New Year.

“After I had the operation I was in a leg brace for about four weeks, which wasn’t easy. I had to do a lot of machine work, about six hours a day.

“It’s good to finally be out of the brace now and walking. It feels like I’m getting that little bit closer to getting back out on the pitch.”
