De Gea demands United release clause

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will sign a new contract with the club, providing a £22.2 million release clause is included.

Louis Van Gaal is desperate to tie the 24-year-old Spaniard down to a new deal, whose current contract runs until the end of next season.

However, with Real Madrid lurking, seeing the United star man as a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas, De Gea will only sign on his terms.

Spanish paper AS report a release clause of £22.2 million must be added to the Spaniard’s new deal if he is to sign, although United are looking for around the £40 million region.

The Red Devils are anxious of losing him for nothing next year, although number two Victor Valdes would be an experienced expense-free option should the fellow Spaniard make the move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
