Chelsea are set to submit a transfer offer for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, in a move which could freeze Gary Cahill out of the picture at Stamford Bridge, the Daily Express have reported.
Jose Mourinho is eyeing an all French centre-back pairing, following Kurt Zouma’s fine man of the match display in the recent game against Manchester City on Saturday.
And the Blues are frantically trying to get a ÂŁ20 million deal done for the highly-rated Varane, alongside Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado.
These new developments for the Real Madrid 21-year-old could cast further doubt the long-term futures of Gary Cahill, and possibly John Terry.
Cahill and Terry had previously enjoyed a formidable pairing since Cahill’s arrival from Bolton Wanderers in the January of 2012.
However, with Terry poised to pen a new deal at the Bridge, Cahill could be the fall guy should Varane link up with the West-Londoners.
