Since joining Chelsea from Anderlecht in 2012, Lukaku has drawn comparisons with club legend Drogba because of their similar physique and playing style.

Both are seen as powerhouse centre-forwards and many of the Stamford Bridge faithful were hopeful that the young Belgian could fill the void left behind by Drogba.

Drogba, who faced Chelsea for the first time since leaving for Galatasaray last week, says he is flattered that Lukaku considers him his idol, but believes comparisons between the two players are wide of the mark.

Speaking to Belgian publication Sport Wereld, Drogba said: “It flatters me that I am Romelu’s idol, we spoke last weekend. But everyone needs to stop comparing us.

“We are both big and strong, but he has qualities that I did not and vice versa.

“Although he still has time to also get them. At nineteen he was already at Chelsea, I was at Le Mans.”

Drogba will have another chance to meet up with his alleged successor this week when the Ivory Coast face up to Belgium in a pre-World Cup friendly.

The Chelsea striking legend, who capped off his career in west London with the winning penalty in a Champions League final shootout against Bayern Munich, would do well to tell Lukaku to focus on his performance on the pitch rather than off of it.

The 20-year-old has seemingly irritated Jose Mourinho this season, who slammed Lukaku for his outspoken nature earlier this season.
