Chelsea legend admits he wanted to leave the club in 2008
Didier Drogba has revealed he wanted to leave Chelsea back in 2008, but was convinced to stay by Frank Lampard.
The Ivorian has recently released a new book about his life, and an extract from it has been revealed, and it touches upon how he wanted to quit Stamford Bridge way back in 2008 when Luiz Felipe Scolari was in charge.
Drogba eventually stayed put at Chelsea and went on to become a club legend, but all could have been different if he hadn’t received a text from team-mate and fellow-legend, Lampard.
In the new book, Drogba admits that a text message from his team-mate single-handedly kept him at the club.
Drogba Reveals Lampard Text
‘The guy who single-handedly convinced me to stay was Frank Lampard,’ Drogba writes.
‘He text me saying: ‘Hi DD, I hope that you’re staying, because we have to win the league together, and we have to win the Champions League together!”
The text work and the message came true as the duo went on to achieve major success together at Chelsea.
