Atletico Madrid have reportedly given up trying to sign him

Chelsea have managed to see off interest from Atletico Madrid in their star striker Diego Costa, according to reports.

The Spanish side were hoping to try and bring the forward back to the club this summer, as they search to add another forward to their ranks. Former player Costa was believed to be one of their main targets and after registering an interest in him several months ago, they have continued to try and secure a deal for him.

Earlier this week, reports even claimed a deal to sign the Spaniard was close but now it appears that no such deal will go ahead.

Reporting Madrid to FIFA

Madrid have decided to back out of their pursuit of the 27-year old after the Blues threatened to report the club to FIFA if they continued to try and poach the striker from them.

They have already written and sent two complaints to Madrid over the fact they have continually tried to sign Costa and, despite originally ignoring these complaints and continuing to try and sign him anyway, they have now accepted they will have to look elsewhere.

It is good news for Blues fans, as it now appears likely that they will be able to keep hold of the forward and he could play a pivotal part in Antonio Conte’s first season in the hotseat at Stamford Bridge.
