Arsenal legend admits his admiration for Spurs striker

Former Arsenal right-back Lee Dixon wishes Harry Kane played for Arsenal rather than Tottenham Hotspur.

The 52-year-old, who represented the Gunners between 1988 and 2002, has admitted he would bring in the 22-year-old England striker from their north London rivals, after another impressive season for the striker.

Kane has scored 25 Premier League goals this season, one more than England teammate Jamie Vardy and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero. And while the Tottenham man may no longer be fighting for the title, he is in a race to finish top of the scoring charts.

“Wish we had him,” Dixon admitted.

“He is the best all-round striker in the Premier League this year. He holds the ball up well, he runs the line, he works for his team, he is good in the air and he shoots from everywhere.”

The striker broke onto the scene at the beginning of last season, while some had doubted whether he could do it again – with some fans claiming they thought it was a one-off.

However, after a slow start to the campaign, Kane led Spurs’ title charge, before they were pipped to the title by history makers, Leicester City.

It has been another remarkable campaign for the Spurs striker, and will head to Euro 2016 in France, this summer, firmly in Roy Hodgson’s plans to start the Three Lions’ first game at the European Championships.

“Ian Wright said to me he likes him so much because he shoots. I said don’t all strikers shoot and he said not as much as Kane,” Dixon added.

“It wasn’t until he said that that I realised how much he shoots.”

Kane spent a brief spell at Arsenal’s academy, before eventually moving onto Spurs, where he spent time on loan at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester, before returning to White Hart Lane and becoming a firm fans’ favourite.
