Manchester United confirm double swoop of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin

Manchester United have announced the double signing of German international Bastian Schweinsteiger and French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

The 30-year-old joins United in a ÂŁ14.4m deal from Bayern Munich, and becomes the first German native ever to ply his trade at Old Trafford.

Schweinsteiger made 500 appearances during his time with the current Bundesliga title-holders, helping them to yet another crown in his final campaign at the Allianz Arena.

The move to bring the experienced midfielder into the club could be regarded as a real coup for Louis Van Gaal, as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title.

And Schweinsteiger stated his delight upon finalising the move, in an interview with United’s official website.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bayern Munich, it has been an incredible journey and I didn’t take the decision to leave lightly.

“Manchester United is the only club that I would have left Munich for. I feel ready for this new and exciting challenge in what I regard as the most competitive league in the world and I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal again.

“I will never forget my time at Bayern Munich and I would like to thank everyone at the club and the fans for the great memories.”

United manager Louis Van Gaal went onto praise his new capture, by saying: ‘There is no doubting his talent and his ability to control games. He brings a wealth of experience and is an excellent addition to our squad.

Double Swoop for United

Schweinsteiger is joined at United by Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, who signs for a fee of ÂŁ25m.

The 25-year-old brings an end to his seven years on the South coast, where he made 253 appearances whilst at the Saints.

“I am delighted to be a Manchester United player. Once I learned that United were interested in signing me, it was a very easy decision to make. I have enjoyed seven very happy years with Southampton and it’s a club that will always be in my heart. But the chance to be part of this squad to help this great club be successful was too good to miss.

“I’m excited to be starting that journey on our trip to the USA. I know what Manchester United means to fans all over the world and I’m looking forward to experiencing that.”
