He becomes second Chelsea legend to join MLS

Montreal Impact have today announced the signing of former Chelsea and Ivory Coast international striker Didier Drogba.

Drogba left the Blues at the end of last season following a second spell at the club, having returned last summer following a short stint in China.

Big Names Heading to the MLS

The 37 year-old is amongst a plethora of well-known names to join the MLS this summer, with Andrea Pirlo, Giovani Dos Santos and former Blues legend Frank Lampard also moving state side.

Montreal finished bottom of the MLS last season, however do not get relegated due to the rules of the league, and are still arguably a work in progress having only been a member since 2012.

And Drogba‘s signing makes Montreal president Joey Saputo feel as though it’s a step in the right direction for the Canadian based club.

Drogba Welcomed

”His arrival will be beneficial in every aspect.

”It’s an honour to welcome Didier to the Impact. From the first conversation I had with him, I felt he really wanted to play in Montreal.”
