The Spurs midfielder is negotiating a new deal at White Hart Lane

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen denies demanding £150,000-a-week to sign a new deal at the north London club this summer.

The 24-year-old has two years remaining on his current contract and Mauricio Pochettino wants to tie the Denmark international down to a new long-term deal, as they prepare for their return to Champions League football.

But a report produced by the Daily Telegraph last week claimed that the player’s large wage demands were a part of the terms of agreeing a new deal to stay with Spurs.

However, both Eriksen and his agent, Martin Schoots, have expressed their dismay at the claims being made by national publications.

Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen are both in talks to agree new deals at the club, while Eriksen took to Twitter to deny speculation about wage demands after Spurs’ 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday.

“Not the result we wanted! But still one point and great support from the fans.” said Eriksen.

“And don’t believe everyting u (sic) read on the internet.”

Meanwhile Schoots said: “The only thing that I can say is that, if money were the most important thing, Christian would not have gone to Ajax in the first place.

“At the time, he was 16 and we were in contact with clubs like Barcelona, Chelsea and AC Milan. And if money were the most important thing, he wouldn’t have joined Tottenham three years ago.

“He had interest from some of the richest clubs in the world. But Tottenham was the only club he wanted to join and he is happy.

“In the eight-and-a-half years that I have worked with Chris, we never made any comments on contract negotiations and we will not make any exception on this, not even confronted by some funny internet rumours.”
