The Royals are keen on the Dutchman

According to Sky Sports News HQ, former Manchester United centre-back Jaap Stam is in talks with Reading over their managerial vacancy.

The Championship club today sacked Brian McDermott following his second managerial spell at the Madejski Stadium, and are currently undergoing a ‘rigorous recruitment process’ to find a new first team boss.

However, Stam is believed to be their preferred candidate and he has reportedly held brief talks with the club.

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know

The 43-year old was recently the Ajax assistant manager and is also good friends with Reading’s technical director Brian Tevreden.

Tevreden coached Ajax’s youth teams during Stam’s coaching period at the Amsterdam club, meaning they have previously worked together closely.

Rumours have also suggested Stam is working towards an eventual coaching position at Old Trafford, but wants to build up a successful repertoire first.
