Leeds United Football Club have signed Jordan Botaka from Dutch side Excelsior

The 22-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Championship side, for an undisclosed fee.

The Congo international, who is currently on international duty, becomes the club’s eight new arrival this summer and could make his debut against Brentford on Saturday 12th September.

Botaka expressed his delight at joining the Elland Road club and is ready for the challenge of playing in England’s second division.

“I am very happy, it happened very fast. In two or three days everything was arranged, it was just crazy.

“I knew Leeds were a big club. I looked a few things up and heard from other people. This is a new adventure for me” said Botaka.

Who is he?

Nicknamed ‘The Wizard’ for his trickery and speed, the African started out Club Brugge before joining Excelsior back in 2013 after a brief loan spell at Portugese side Belenenses.

During his first season in Holland, he became a key member of the team, helping them to Eredivise promotion at the first time of asking.

Botaka did accumulate three caps for the Netherlands Under-19s side but eventually decided to play Congo and made his full international debut for them earlier this year.

He is the eighth player signed by manager Uwe Rosler and follows Charlie Horton, Lee Erwin, Sol Bamba, Chris Wood, Tom Adeyemi (loan),Ross Turnbull and Stuart Dallas into Elland Road.
