Ex-Everton defender tips youngster to play for one of the big boys
Ex-Everton defender Kevin Kilbane has tipped young star Ross Barkley to shine in his career- but not at Everton
Kilbane is backing Barkley to move away from Everton to one of the league’s big boys, and while this is often considered a bad choice by young players, Kilbane is backing Barkley to shine.
Chelsea and Manchester United have both been linked with Barkley in the recent transfer windows, and with another window just around the corner, Kilbane reckons Everton manager Roberto Martinez could have a fight on his hands keeping the playmaker.
Kilbane told Starsport: “Is Barkley good enough for United or Chelsea? Yeah he is.
“I think Roberto Martinez would be quick to stress that he’s going nowhere and he wants to develop him as an Everton player.
“But he has that [level of] ability. When you watch him play, he can glide past players, he can pick passes out.
“He’s taken quite a bit of stick from the Everton fans over the last couple of years.
“That’s because he’s a young lad that is going to have inconsistent spells.
“He’ll have spells in games where he’s not going to be in the match, where you’re not going to see him.
