Which 11 Premier League stars shined this week?

After another full round of Premier League fixtures at the weekend, it’s time to look at the players who rose above the rest to claim their place in Sillyseason’s team of the week.

GK: Hugo Lloris – Tottenham Hostspur

Amongst a boring game at White Hart Lane between Spurs and Chelsea, Lloris pulled of a remarkable save to deny Eden Hazard an opening goal to the game, and saved Spurs going behind.

LB: Alberto Moreno – Liverpool

Moreno was part of a strong defensive unit for Liverpool against Swansea at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, he made some crucial challenges and never stopped running as usual, and helped guide Liverpool to another 3 points under the new Klopp regime.

CB: Toby Alderweireld – Tottenham Hotspur

Defended well against, yes, a struggling Chelsea side, but was immense at the back, authoritative at set-pieces and lead Spurs to their 13th game in a row undefeated.

CB: Kurt Zouma – Chelsea

Another player who lead his team to a good defensive performance this weekend, this time AGAINST Spurs. A hard shift from Zouma helped earned his side a point at White Hart Lane, a point that is often hard to come by in the league at the moment.

RB: Patrick van Aanholt – Sunderland

Just as the fixture at the Stadium of Light seemed to be heading for a draw on Saturday, along came Patrick van Aanholt to fire Sunderland into the lead and initiate the Black Cat’s 2-0 win vs Stoke, with Sam Allerdyce seeming to steady the ship at Sunderland, with the club previously in big trouble of relegation.

CM: Junior Stanislas – Bournemouth

With 10 minutes to go at the weekend in the game between Bournemouth and Everton, the away side led 2-0 and seemed comfortable to bring home the 3 points, until one of the greatest finishes to a game in Premier League history. After pulling a goal back, Stanislas got the equaliser to bring it to 2-2, and again equalised for Bournemouth in the 98th minute after Ross Barkley seemed to have won it for Everton after 95 minutes.

CM: James McArthur – Crystal Palace

James McArthur got his team’s first and last goals as Crystal Palace bounced back from their 1-0 home defeat vs Sunderland on Monday with a 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle, McArthur claimed it was down to the belief of the side and put in a good shift in midfield.

LW: Yannick Bolasie – Crystal Palace

Bolasie is a powerhouse of energy every week and this week vs Newcastle was no exception, getting two goals in the thrashing of Steve McLaren’s side at St. James’ Park.

CAM: Kevin De Bruyne – Manchester City

One of the best signings of the summer shone again as City got back to winning ways against Southampton. He bagged the opening goal in the 3-1 victory and put in a good overall performance.

Oion Ighalo – Watford FC

A good performance from the forward helped heap more misery on Aston Villa as Watford came away from Villa Park 3-2 winners.

Jamie Vardy – Leicester City

Leicester’s 1-1 draw vs Manchester United will definitely be remembered for Jamie Vardy surpassing Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record for scoring in consecutive games in the Premier Leagiue, what a moment for a striker who was playing non-league football just 5 years ago.
