Arsenal and Liverpool have been joined by Chelsea for the signing of Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho.

The Premier League champions are making plans for the January transfer window, and see Carvalho as part of a solution to the disappointing start of their title defence.

Arsenal have been keen on the midfielder for a number of months. The Gunners tried to sign Carvalho in 2014, but had a £13m-plus-player deal rejected.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Blues are joining the hunt. Paris St-Germain are also said to be interested.

Carvalho, 23, was an integral part of the Portugal side which won the European Under-21 championships this summer, being named player of the tournament.

He is currently recovering from a stress fracture in his tibia, suffered in the summer.

He has 13 caps for Portugal, and is sure to attract a lot of interest from across the continent in the New Year.
