Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin has given the club an injury scare after withdrawing from the Spain Under-21 squad.

The 21-year-old defender suffered a kick to the ankle by Tottenham’s Danny Rose during the North London derby on Sunday, and he had joined his international colleagues for training ahead of their UEFA Under-21 Championship Qualifying playoff ties with Austria.

However, Bellerin pulled out of training yesterday, and will be assessed tomorrow by Arsenal’s medical team.

Bellerin was left out of Arsenal’s Champions League squad to face Ludogorets, with concerns lingering over his fitness. He did, though, play the whole game against Tottenham.

It is another player down for Arsenal after Alexis Sanchez withdrew from training with Chile after a ‘low-grade muscle tear’. Sanchez has insisted that he will be available for their game with Uruguay next week.

It appears Bellerin has been having a rough week, as he today uploaded a picture on Snapchat showing bruising to his ear. It is not thought that the bruising is related to the injury.

Arsenal return to action after the international break with games against Manchester United and Paris St-Germain, and will hope to have Sanchez and Bellerin available.
