Grzegorz Krychowiak has dealt a blow to Arsenal by opening talks with Sevilla regarding a new deal.

The Gunners had targeted defensive midfielder Krychowiak over the summer to boost their defensive options, as competition for Francis Coquelin.

However, Krychowiak pledged his loyalty to the Spanish club, and especially coach Unai Emery, who he claims galvanised his career.

Pole Krychowiak, 25, said: “If he [Emery] had left to go to another club it’s probable I would have seriously considered doing the same.

“Emery is part of my success. He believes in me. We are twin souls, we are a perfect fit, our philosophies are very similar.

“I have only been at Sevilla for a year but I owe a lot to the manager.”

Krychowiak scored in last season’s Europa League final against Dnipro in Warsaw, which Sevilla won 3-2. He was also named in the La Liga Team of the Season last term.

And he is set to be rewarded for his efforts, according to Estadio Deportivo, with a new deal to be offered, along with an increase in his release clause. This currently stands at ÂŁ21.6m.
