Aston Villa’s nightmare season has suffered a new blow with the news that Gabby Agbonlahor has been suspended, the club have confirmed.

The Villans’ relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Saturday after a 1-0 loss at Manchester United.

The striker, who was not considered for first-team selection due to being overweight and unfit, was pictured next to canisters of laughing gas at London’s Mayfair Hotel, just hours after the Old Trafford defeat.

The club confirmed in a statement today: “Aston Villa Football Club has today suspended Gabby Agbonlahor pending an internal investigation.

“This is following allegations concerning his conduct at the weekend.

“There will be no further comment from the Club in relation to this matter until the investigation has been completed.”

The news of Agbonlahor’s suspension is the latest blow in this most devastating of seasons for Villa, both on and off the pitch.

Agbonlahor, 29, was only last month pictured apparently smoking a shisha pipe in Dubai.

Defender Joleon Lescott has also come under fire after describing relegation as ‘a weight off the shoulders’.

Lescott has also become embroiled in a Twitter spat with ex-Villa forward Stan Collymore, including challenging Collymore to a fight after Collymore branded him a “t*t”.

Lescott also tweeted a picture of his expensive new car after a 6-0 mauling by Liverpool.
