The Spaniard has reportedly signed a new contract with the club

Rafa Benitez is set to stay at Newcastle after signing a new deal with the club, according to reports.

Sky Sources are claiming that the ex-Liverpool manager is likely to stay on and manage Newcastle in the Championship next season, as he is set to sign a new three-year deal at the club.

Benitez and Mike Ashley reportedly spoke to each other after the Toon’s fantastic 5-1 win over Tottenham on the final day of the season and began speaking about a new contract for the Spaniard then.

It looks likely that he will now stay at Newcastle then, despite many people having doubts as to whether he would still be there this summer. When he originally joined the club, it seemed as if he would just stay until the end of the season, as there was an option for him to leave if the club were relegated.

Full control over signings

Despite Benitez’s best efforts, the club did get relegated from the Premier League. However, rather than abandon the club, it seems he has decided to stay on and try and get the club back in the top tier of English football.

As part of this new contract, he is also set to be handed full control over which players come in and which players leave this summer and also have full control of the transfer and wage budgets for the club, something which the manager was hoping for.

Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, the new contract is expected to be revealed in the next day or so.
