The Blues are searching for a big target-man type striker this January with recent reports linking them with Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and Ashley Barnes. But it seems Chelsea could be on the verge of completing a deal for Roma striker Edin Dzeko.
Reports have suggested Chelsea could also sign full-back Emerson Palmieri as well in a double deal which could amount to around £44m.
And now, The Sun report that Chelsea could pull off a major coup by signing Dzeko for £28m.
Dzeko scored 29 goals last season in the Serie A which won him the golden boot award beating out strikers such as Gonzalo Higuain, Paulo Dybala, and Mauro Icardi.
The former Manchester City striker turns 32 in March and Chelsea would be contradicting their previous stance on not signing older players. But it seems Conte is desperate for a new goalscorer with Alvaro Morata failing to score in his last six appearances. And while Conte has claimed he has no control over transfers, it seems the board are willing to open the checkbook for Conte to secure a top four finish.
Meanwhile, Roma sporting director has responded to the rumours by stating that his job is to find players for the future. This could indeed mean that Roma are open to letting the 31-year-old go.
“My work is 365 days a year. We are always ready to seek and find players for the present and the future. ‘It’s not just one or two days looking for players.”
