Bristol City chief claims Chelsea have ‘list of clubs they refuse to do business with’

A Bristol City chief has claimed that Chelsea have a list of clubs that they refuse to do transfer business with.

The Blues, managed by Antonio Conte, have enjoyed a winning start to the season, sitting second behind Manchester City on goal difference.

They have a loan list longer than some people’s arms, with 38 players currently out on loan with other clubs, both in England and abroad.

One of these is Tammy Abraham, who is currently at Ashton Gate. He has scored three goals in the Championship so far this season.

Bristol City CEO Mark Ashton claims the Blues made them agree on certain conditions before agreeing the deal for Abraham, including convincing the Chelsea board that the player would be given adequate game time.

“They [Chelsea] had tried these arrangements with English clubs before and, in their words, they hadn’t worked.

“They gave me a list of clubs they would not do business with,” Ashton told the Bristol Post.

“I asked them to give us Tammy for the season and then judge us on what we do, not what we say.

“I told them we would show them what we could do and then build a long-term relationship.

“We then did the deal with Chelsea and sorted all of the finances, which were far from straightforward.”

Abraham is an England Under-19 international and has made two senior appearances for Chelsea after progressing through the Premier League club’s youth system.
