Arsenal keen on signing Chelsea shot-stopper

Former Chelsea assistant coach Ray Wilkins has dealt a blow to Arsenal’s hopes of signing Blues goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been looking for a new stopper, and thought Cech would be tempted with a move across London.

But Wilkins, who had two spells at Stamford Bridge between 2000 and 2009 as a coach as well as starting his playing career there in 1973, reckons that Cech would be heading abroad if he does leave.

Wilkins, who last year became Jordan national team coach, as well as Director of Football for myskillz, a football website for children, told TalkSport:

Chelsea Don’t Sell to Rivals

‘If you look at Chelsea’s actions over the last few years, with the likes of Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou, they were all sold outside the country so they couldn’t do any damage to the club in the Premier League.

‘Jose Mourinho will do the same with Petr Cech.

‘I don’t know why Paris Saint-Germain have not tabled a bid already because Salvatore Sirigu, the Italian goalkeeper, isn’t good enough.’

The Czech keeper has mainly been second to Belgian Thibault Courtois in the Stamford Bridge pecking order between the sticks this season.
