Five Things Learned From The Premier League today: 6-2-2016

Another thrilling day of Premier League action saw Leicester City continue to defy the odds, and the bottom three all took points.

With this mind, here are five things learned from today’s action:

  1. Leicester CAN win the league
Even bookmakers, even Leicester’s own manager, now believe the title is more than an impossible dream. The Foxes continue to defy the odds, and gained another superb victory today against Manchester City, and they were able to keep hold of their star names in the January transfer window. Indeed, Jamie Vardy has this evening agreed a new deal with the club. It is truly a sensational story the club have had these last 12 months, from almost certain relegation, to realistic title contenders. And who will now bet against them going all the way.
      2. The road to recovery has begun for Aston Villa
The club, this season, have been an absolute shambles. Even the most die-hard Villa fan would have had trouble believing how bad it had gotten. That said. results in recent weeks have been encouraging. And a vial win over Norwich today, while still leaving the club eight points adrift of safety, does at least provide a platform for them to build on.
       3.  The Liverpool fans’ walkout may send a powerful message
Some Liverpool fans staged a walk-out protest in the 77th minute of the game with Sunderland. Others decided to stay in their seats. Those that left, including Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, were protesting at the fact that a top-priced ticket at Anfield next season will cost ÂŁ77. There were also chants of ‘you greedy b******s, enough is enough’. Is this a sign that Premier League fans have had enough of being treated like ‘customers’ and not ‘fans’?
       4. West Ham’s away form is a cause for concern
The Hammers were very good away from home at the start of the season, with wins at Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. But today’s loss at Southampton means it’s now just one away league win since mid October. With the club due to move into their new home at the Olympic Stadium in the summer, they want to finish as high as possible.

5. Saido Berahino is a shadow of the player he was, and can be

West Brom manager Tony Pulis called out Berahino recently, saying his player was out of form and fitness. He was proved right today. Berahino looked well off the pace against Newcastle, who bid £21m for his services in January. They must be glad that a deal was not completed based on this form.
