Icardi feels he has long-term duty to Inter Milan

Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has rejected a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window and will stay at the San Siro.

The 22-year-old has been liked with a ÂŁ32 million move to the Emirates, but it looks like Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will have to look elsewhere for the replacement to Danny Welbeck.

England international Welbeck has been out since April with a knee injury and underwent an operation in September, leaving Arsenal short of options up front and Wenger is search of his replacement.

It is understood Acardi will not leave Inter during January, despite Arsenal’s interest, as he has captaincy commitments to fulfil and Inter are on course for a strong title challenge, as they top Serie A.

Captain fantastic

Having been given the captaincy this season, after a fine start to his Inter career following his move from Sampdoria in 2013, a January move seems off the cards – regardless of what Arsenal offer the Italians.

Liverpool and Chelsea are also tracking the progress of the 22-year-old, who has failed to live up to expectations this season with the added responsibility, scoring four goals in 11 appearances after impressing with 24 goals in all competitions last season.

It is understood Inter will refuse any offers coming their way as they look to push for the Serie A title this campaign.
