Spanish La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are weighing up a £37m deal for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, according to reports.

Atletico lost Jackson Martinez to the lure of the Chinese Super League, and believe the Belgian would be a suitable replacement, claim Mundo Deportivo.

Benteke has seemingly fallen out of favour at Anfield under manager Jurgen Klopp, with the German keen on reshaping the Reds strikeforce.

One sticking point, however, could be financing the deal, with Atletico reportedly seeking investors, claim Tuttomercado.

The club are in the process of building a new stadium, to the west of Madrid, whilst remaining competitively both domestically and in the Champions League.

Atletico are majority owned by Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the son of former Marbella mayor and businessman Jesus Gil. Chinese investor Wang Jianlin (20 per cent) and film producer Enrique Cerezo (20 per cent) also holding large blocks of shares.

With regards to replacements for Benteke, Klopp is considering returning to Germany, with Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Klopp’s former employers, and Liverpool’s Europa League quarter-final opponents Borussia Dortmund, on his radar.
