Jorge Mendes to force deal for Manchester United target

Super-agent Jorge Mendes, who looks after some of football’s biggest names, is set to force a move for one of his players.

Mendes, with the likes of David de Gea, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho, Diego Costa and many others on his books, is this time turning his attention to Valencia’s Andre Gomes.

Twenty two-year-old central midfielder Gomes, who joined Valencia in 2014 from Benfica, is being tracked by Manchester United, who may be changing managers this summer.

Mourinho, who is strongly linked with replacing Louis van Gaal as United manager this summer, could well be the key to any deal, as Mendes represents both him and Gomes.

CalcioMercato believe that Gomes has already been promised to Mourinho, if the Portuguese Special One does take the reins at Old Trafford.

Spanish outlet Fichajes claim Gomes is edging closer to a switch to England.

Todomercatoweb reckon Chelsea are also keen on the player. But just to complicate things a little bit more, Juventus are also rumoured to be sniffing around, and preparing a ÂŁ24m deal.

Gomes initially joined Valencia on a one-season loan deal, which was made permanent last summer when he signed a deal until 2020.

It has been an eventful campaign for Valencia, who have gone through a few managers this season, including Gary Neville’s ill-fated reign. The current boss is Pako Ayesteran.

Gomes has five caps for the Portuguese national side.
