The incoming Red Devils boss wants Giggs to stay put

Jose Mourinho is set to hold talks with Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs, when he finally takes over at Old Trafford.

An announcement about the appointment of the former Chelsea boss is set to be made imminently, while the top bosses at United are reportedly set to offer their former player a ‘downgraded’ role, compared to the one he took on under former boss Louis Van Gaal.

However, Mourinho is keen for the Red Devils legend to stay with him at Old Trafford, despite the 42-year-old deciding that he wants to leave his club of 26 years.

Giggs is understood not to be happy with what United are proposing to offer him, while former United forward Brian Kidd has been lined up as the Welshman’s shock replacement as assistant manager.

It is understood that Mourinho will not bring any backroom staff with him, and that having Giggs by his side would be seen as beneficial – considering his vast knowledge of the club.

However, Kidd – who is co-assistant manager at local rivals Manchester City – could potentially link up with Mourinho, although City have insisted that the former United man is going nowhere.

It is expected that the 66-year-old will stay at City, and work under the new regime of Pep Guardiola. However, it is believed that Giggs is less than happy with the news that his role could diminish at Old Trafford.

The former Wales international left United’s Carrington training ground early on Monday morning, on the day Van Gaal was officially sacked. And Giggs was described as having ‘a face like thunder’ when he arrived at his George’s restaurant in Worsley.

Manchester United did not make a comment on Giggs’ future at Old Trafford, when they released a statement officially announcing that Van Gaal’s reign at the club had come to an end, a year early.

  1. Giggs should seek other options elsewhere, clearly ManU are not that caring anymore for him. He should have been given the chance to become the manager now. This Mourinho tempting him yo stay IMO is just a publicity stunt to please some section of ManU fans.

No conviction in the tempt, it seems like one hand is gesturing him to stay, the other hand is waving him goodbye
