Everton are reportedly preparing a £40m deal for Manchester United pair Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman worked with Schneiderlin at Southampton, and he has remained a fan of both Schneiderlin and fellow Dutchman Memphis.

Neither player has consistently reached the ultra-high standard expected at United since their arrival.

And neither has featured too often this season under Jose Mourinho.

Everton are eager to sign both of them in a £40million deal, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Koeman’s side could do with more quality in midfield after an inconsistent start to the season.

Mourinho recently stated that he would not stand in the way of his players if they wanted to leave.

He said: ‘I am always open to listen to offers for every player.

Any player who knocks on my door and is not happy and wants to move, when the offers are correct, I will never stop a player from leaving, even if it is to a rival. When Mata left Chelsea to come to United, no problem at all. I am always open.

‘What I can say is that I am happy with the squad. I would like my (current) squad to be my squad until the end of the season.’
